It is said that in 1961, Doug Engelbart had the idea for the mouse during a conference talk. In 1963, he created his first design, which featured rolling wheels that were modeled after the 1800s mechanical area-measuring machines known as planimeters. In the middle of the 1960s, engineers at Telefunken in Germany also created the mouse. Left: In 1964, Douglas Engelbart and Bill English devised the mouse, which they called the "Bug." To illustrate the idea, they made this hefty, exquisite wooden contraption. A replica might be seen in this photo at the Startup museum display in Albuquerque.

Osborne 1 April 3, 1981 saw the launching of the Osborne 1, the first portable computer to be commercially successful. It was manufactured by Osborne Computer Corporation. It costs $1,795 USD, weighs 24.5 lbs (11.1 kg), and uses the CP/M 2.2 operating system. Adam Osborne hired Lee Felsenstein to design a low-cost portable computer with integrated software that he intended to market after selling his computer book publishing business to McGraw-Hill in 1979.
